I recommend AlexLee Professional Management to any label looking for a smooth & profitable introduction into the Beatport digital retail platform. It can be a little overwhelming to understand all the new rules & tools of the digital distribution world, but they guys at AlexLee are already well informed, experienced, & have a firm grasp on what needs to be done to make it work for your label. They deliver the music on time, always with the proper metadata, & are in constant communication with me to get the labels they represent advertised within Beatport site. When I started Fullbodysoundsystem I was totally unsure of the market. Having put out a few vinyl releases on my own in conjunction with Digital Muzik Inc., and then losing vinyl distribution, due to poor sales for everybody in the market, things seemed awfully grey for the future of the label.
Although the vinyl sales where in the preverbal toilets, the releases were doing well digitally through Beatport.com. It was then I made a connection through a personal friend to Lee Morrison. I new Lee and Alex ran a label management company called alexlee Music in the United Kingdom, and that they came very highly recommended among the class A producers and remixers that I know.
Lee explained to me that vinyl was on the way out, and this digital revolution is the way of the future. A few of us on the label were very skeptical, but alexlee Music has put Fullbodysoundsystem not only into the crates of the worlds biggest and best dj's, but to the front of them. Fullbodysoundsystem Producer Konk West says "Damon, you went from being on only Beatport, to every fucking download site on the planet that matters!" Our bandwidth too has increased greatly; on October 12, 2006 we had a total of 32,000 hits for the month, compared to July 2006 being 1500 hits.
Other benefits to being with alexlee Music, is that when a person runs a search on any of my labels the digital stores come up first. I will be the first person to admit that I dislike the market shift to digitally releasing material, however alexlee Music has proven not only to me, but my entire roster of producers and remixers that it is in fact the way of the future, and allows labels to quickly distribute releases for those who know. The promotion that is provided by alexlee Music is second to no one. If it wasn't for them, DJ's such as Seb Fontaine, Jody from Way Out West, Deepgroove, Zimbardo, Oliver Lang, & Oliver Lieb would not know who we are.
A long time ago, when I first started DJing, I was told it is not about how many records you have, it is about he who has the hottest box wins. Lee's definitely got a hot box.
